Air India, Delta, and United to Restart Israel Flights in 2025
International Airlines Set to Resume Flights to Tel Aviv in 2025
Major international airlines, including Air India, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, are preparing to restart flights to Tel Aviv, Israel, in the first quarter of 2025. This development comes in the wake of a 15-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas, which recently concluded, allowing for a hopeful return to regular air travel in the region.
The end of the war has prompted a shift in the aviation landscape, with airlines eager to reestablish connections to Tel Aviv (TLV). Thousands of travelers are expected to benefit from the resumption of these flights, which will enhance travel options to and from Israel.
United Airlines to Resume Israel Flights
United Airlines is set to be among the first carriers to resume flights to Tel Aviv, with plans to reinstate service as early as February 22, 2025. Currently, United’s booking system does not allow for ticket purchases to Tel Aviv, and the airline has confirmed that flight suspensions are still in effect.
Before the conflict began on October 7, 2023, United operated 28 weekly flights to Tel Aviv, including routes to major cities such as New York, Chicago, Washington, and San Francisco. Following the initial suspension of operations, United briefly resumed a limited number of flights in March 2024 but faced further interruptions due to ongoing regional tensions.
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has suggested that the suspension of United’s flights may have political motivations influenced by union pressures. He has indicated that he could use his position on the Senate Committee on Commerce to facilitate a quicker resumption of these flights.
Air India to Restart Flights to Tel Aviv
Air India is also preparing to restart direct flights on the Tel Aviv-Delhi (DEL) route, beginning March 2, 2025. This move will establish Air India as the sole carrier offering direct flights between Israel and India, with Delhi serving as a crucial hub for connecting flights to destinations across East Asia.
Following the outbreak of the conflict, Air India quickly adapted and is now ready to resume operations after navigating several disruptions. This announcement aligns with similar plans from other international airlines, including Lufthansa, Air France, and British Airways, but Air India stands out as the first airline to resume long-haul flights to Israel.
Delta Air Lines to Launch Non-Stop Flights to Tel Aviv
Delta Air Lines has announced its intention to resume daily non-stop flights to Tel Aviv from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, starting April 1, 2025. This marks Delta as the first U.S. airline to officially restore services to Israel following the de-escalation of regional tensions.
Utilizing Airbus A330-900neo aircraft for this route, Delta’s decision follows an extensive security review and aims to ensure the safety of both passengers and crew. The resumption of this daily service will provide approximately 2,000 weekly seats on the New York-Tel Aviv route, coinciding with the busy Passover holiday travel period.
While American Airlines has yet to resume services to Israel, new entrants like Israeli budget airline Arkia are planning to launch thrice-weekly flights to New York around the same time.
The Aftermath of the Conflict
Despite the end of the war, Hamas remains in control of Gaza, presenting ongoing challenges to Israel’s security objectives. The conflict, which began with a surprise attack on October 7, 2023, has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with over 47,000 Palestinians reported dead and a substantial portion of Gaza’s population displaced.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has indicated that Hamas has managed to recruit new fighters despite their losses, suggesting that the conflict’s aftermath could lead to further instability.
As the situation evolves, many are hopeful that the resumption of flights to Tel Aviv will mark a step toward normalization and recovery for the region.
