Vietnam Airlines Resumes Hanoi-Moscow Flights After 3 Years
Vietnam Airlines Expands International Routes in 2025: New Flights to Moscow, Beijing, and Bali
HANOI – Vietnam Airlines (VN) is set to significantly enhance its international presence in 2025 with an array of new and resumed routes. The airline will be relaunching its Hanoi-Moscow service after a three-year pause, introducing a new connection to Beijing Daxing International Airport, and offering direct flights to Denpasar, Bali. These strategic expansions aim to strengthen tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges while solidifying Vietnam’s position in the global aviation market.
Vietnam Airlines Restarts Moscow Flights
Vietnam Airlines will resume its direct flights between Hanoi (HAN) and Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO) starting May 8, 2024. This route had been suspended since March 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
- Flight Schedule: Initially, the airline will operate two flights weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with plans to increase to three flights per week by July 2026.
- Tourism Impact: Russia remains an essential market for Vietnamese tourism, with projections of 220,000 passengers traveling between the two nations in 2024. This figure is more than double the traffic in 2023, although still only 26% of the pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019.
The revival of the Hanoi-Moscow route is expected to boost tourism and facilitate enhanced trade and cultural relations.
Strengthening Vietnam-China Connectivity
Beginning March 30, 2025, Vietnam Airlines will launch a direct route from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), one of the world’s top aviation hubs.
- Operational Details: This new service will run five times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays—utilizing modern Airbus A321 aircraft.
- Expanded Services: Additionally, the existing Hanoi (HAN)-Beijing (PKX) route will transition to daily flights to meet rising demand.
This expansion not only provides travelers with more options but also enhances the efficiency of travel between southern Vietnam and Beijing, with quick access to downtown Beijing in 40-50 minutes.
Direct Flights to Bali Enhance Tourism
Vietnam Airlines is also set to introduce direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), Bali, starting June 1, 2025.
- Flight Schedule: Initially, this route will operate four times a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays), with plans to upgrade to daily service by July 2025.
- Tourism Growth: This initiative marks the airline’s second direct route to Indonesia, bringing the total number of weekly flights between the two countries to 14. In 2024, passenger traffic between Vietnam and Indonesia reached 800,000, marking a 61% increase compared to 2019.
During the announcement, Vietnam Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Indonesian Travel Agents (ASTINDO) to enhance bilateral tourism efforts, showcasing a commitment to developing collaborative marketing strategies.
Conclusion: A Vision for Global Connectivity
Vietnam Airlines’ latest route expansions underscore its dedication to enhancing international connectivity. The reinstatement of the Hanoi-Moscow route, the new flights to Beijing Daxing, and the direct service to Bali all contribute to the airline’s strategy of promoting tourism and trade growth.
With these developments, Vietnam Airlines is poised to strengthen its role as a leading player in the aviation industry, facilitating increased global travel and economic opportunities.
