Alaska Airlines Debuts Fresh Livery and New Flights to London and Iceland
Alaska Airlines has recently unveiled plans for two new European routes, with services set to commence on August 5, 2025.
Starting in the spring of 2026, the airline will offer daily nonstop flights from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to London Heathrow (LHR) and Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland.
Service to London will operate year-round using Boeing 787-9 aircraft, while initial flights to Iceland will occur during the summer months with the smaller B737 MAX 8 aircraft.
This announcement marks the fourth and fifth long-haul routes for Alaska Airlines, following its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines and subsequent expansion into the long-haul sector.
On the Seattle to London-Heathrow route, Alaska Airlines will go head-to-head with British Airways, Delta Air Lines, and Virgin Atlantic, all of which provide nonstop services between these two cities. The route to Keflavik, however, is currently the sole operation of Icelandair.
Earlier this year, the carrier announced services connecting Seattle to Rome Fiumicino (FCO), Tokyo Narita (NRT), and Seoul Incheon (ICN). In the coming months, an additional seven intercontinental routes are expected to be revealed, with a commitment to at least 12 long-haul routes over the next five years.
In an exciting development, Alaska Airlines is also awaiting the arrival of 17 new Boeing 787-9 aircraft to enhance its long-haul capabilities.
Additionally, the airline introduced a new livery for its incoming B787 fleet. The updated color scheme features a blend of blue and green shades, reminiscent of the Northern Lights and the vibrant landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, where the airline primarily operates.
Alaska Airlines plans to implement a dual brand strategy for its long-haul operations. The Boeing 787-9s will carry the Alaska Airlines branding while maintaining the distinct identity of Hawaiian Airlines for its adventures across the Pacific and within the continental U.S. using primarily Airbus A330 aircraft.
