Malaysia Airlines Partners with Qantas to Enhance Australia-Asia Travel

Travelers can expect enhanced connectivity across Australia and Malaysia, thanks to a new codeshare agreement between Malaysia Airlines and Qantas, both of which are part of the oneworld alliance.

Malaysia Airlines will now include its ‘MH’ code on 18 domestic routes operated by Qantas, ensuring smoother connections to cities like Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, and Launceston. This partnership is set to streamline travel and create more efficient pathways for passengers.

“Australia has long been a core part of our network, and our recent investments – including the deployment of the A330neo, increased flight frequencies, and the resumption of services to Brisbane – reflect our commitment to meeting growing demand while enhancing our premium offering in this market,” remarked Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group.

On the other hand, Qantas will place its ‘QF’ code on Malaysia Airlines flights connecting Kuala Lumpur with major Australian destinations, such as Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. Additionally, travelers can expect connections to Singapore and popular Malaysian locations like Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, and Penang.

Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International, emphasized that this partnership exemplifies the airline’s dedication to providing more choices and convenience through an expanding network shared by both airlines.

Looking ahead, Malaysia Airlines is gearing up for a notable expansion in the Australian market, set for 2025. The airline plans to resume services to Brisbane on November 29, 2025, with five flights operating weekly. Furthermore, frequencies to Melbourne and Sydney are set to increase to three daily flights from October 30 and October 31, 2025, respectively.

As part of the oneworld Alliance, both Malaysia Airlines and Qantas provide travelers with access to a vast global network, covering over 900 destinations.
