Lufthansa and ITA Airways Expand Codeshare for New Global Routes

Lufthansa and ITA Airways are expanding their codeshare collaboration to introduce new international routes across Africa and Asia.

Starting from September 2, 2025, travelers using the AZ code from ITA Airways can book flights via Brussels Airport (BRU) to destinations such as Abidjan, Douala, Freetown, Monrovia, Nairobi, and Ouagadougou.

Passengers of Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines will also benefit by being able to book flights to Bangkok, Jeddah, Cairo, Riyadh, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo through Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO).

A second wave of codeshare long-haul routes will commence on August 6, 2025, incorporating the Lufthansa (LH) code on flights operated by ITA Airways and the ITA Airways (AZ) code for routes serviced by Lufthansa Group airlines.

The AZ code will cover several flights within the Lufthansa Group, specifically:

– Frankfurt / Munich – Delhi
– Frankfurt / Munich – Mumbai
– Munich – Seoul

Meanwhile, Lufthansa travelers can enjoy the convenience of a single ticket to reach various destinations within ITA Airways’ network, including:

– Rome Fiumicino – Accra
– Rome Fiumicino – Dakar
– Rome Fiumicino (FCO) – Delhi

A representative from ITA Airways stated, “The increased number of intercontinental destinations accessible through this codeshare agreement further strengthens synergies between ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group, enhancing connections between Italy and key markets such as Africa and Asia.”

They further emphasized, “This partnership offers passengers a wider, more integrated, and efficient global network, granting them reciprocal point accrual in each other’s frequent flyer programs.”
