United Airlines Expands Summer Flights to Greenland Through 2026

NEWARK— United Airlines (UA) is set to bring back flights to Nuuk, Greenland (GOH) in the summer of 2026. This route was first introduced in 2025, representing the first nonstop service operated by a U.S. airline between the United States and Greenland.

The Newark-to-Nuuk connection is a significant development for United Airlines (UA), allowing travel from the New York City area (EWR) to Greenland’s capital (GOH) in under four hours. Prior to this service, travelers had to transit through Iceland or Europe to reach Greenland.

United Airlines Expands Greenland Flights

Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning, confirmed the seasonal return on social media. He highlighted Greenland as a distinctive addition to United’s expanding international network.

Initially launched in June 2025, the service was operated by the Boeing 737 MAX 8. It provided travelers with direct access to a destination that hadn’t seen scheduled U.S. service since 2007.

The revival of this route became feasible due to improvements in Greenland’s airport infrastructure, including a new terminal and an extended runway at Nuuk International Airport (GOH).

The flight takes about four hours from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Passengers experience a stark contrast, escaping New York’s summer heat for Greenland’s cooler climate, with average summer temperatures around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
