RIYADH- Saudi Arabian Flag Carrier, Riyadh Air (RX), has unveiled images of its inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Boeing’s Charleston facility. This aircraft is nearing its final stages of production, marking a significant achievement ahead of the airline’s anticipated launch in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Posted on the airline’s X account, these images highlight the Dreamliner’s assembly progress, showcasing Riyadh Air’s unique livery. This is the first Dreamliner designed explicitly for the national airline of Saudi Arabia.

Introduction of Riyadh Air’s First Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

The Boeing 787-9 is a vital component of Riyadh Air’s fleet strategy. By August 2025, the airline has secured firm orders for 39 of these aircraft, with the option for an additional 33.

These deliveries are set to support Riyadh Air’s international operations based out of King Khalid International Airport (RUH).

While this aircraft is the first specifically constructed for Riyadh Air, it previously utilized a Boeing 787-9 for promotional events in 2023, which included appearances at the Paris Air Show.

Moreover, in January 2025, the airline received a used Dreamliner from Oman Air (WY), which has been deployed for crew training, demonstration flights, and industry events.

The arrival of this first owned aircraft signals a notable advancement in the airline’s expansion plans.

Riyadh Air is set to begin commercial operations in Q4 2025, positioning itself as a crucial player in Saudi Arabia’s aviation transformation in line with the Vision 2030 economic diversification initiative.

  • Economy Class: 223 seats in a 3-3-3 setup.
