Police are looking into the death of a stowaway after a body was found inside the landing gear compartment of an aircraft at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit shared that the investigation is taking place at the 5000 block of Hangar Road within the airport’s division. This discovery occurred on September 28, 2025, around 09:00 local time, during maintenance on an American Airlines plane that had just returned from Europe.

The individual found has not yet been identified or provided background information. Unfortunately, they were pronounced dead on the scene by responding officers from the airport division.
