Thai SmartLynx Achieves AOC Certification as Thailand’s Pioneer ACMI Airline
Thai SmartLynx has officially received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). This momentous achievement positions the airline as a specialist in ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services, and it is also a proud partner of Avia Solutions Group, which stands as the largest ACMI provider worldwide.
This milestone is significant for Thailand’s aviation landscape, as Thai SmartLynx becomes the first ACMI operator based in Thailand. The airline aims to provide fleet capacity solutions tailored to meet both seasonal demands and operational needs, not just within Thailand but also throughout the broader region.
Thai SmartLynx stands out as the first airline in Thailand to secure an AOC under the newly established Thailand Civil Aviation Regulations on Air Operations (TCAR OPS). These regulations, which reflect standards set by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), oversee critical areas such as safety protocols, crew qualifications, and operational guidelines, thereby enhancing alignment with global aviation standards.
The airline plans to launch operations with an Airbus A320 from its newly established operational base at Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). Additionally, Thai SmartLynx intends to gradually expand its fleet, with plans to introduce 15 to 20 aircraft over the next three to four years to bolster both local and regional airlines.
Martynas Grigas, Chairman of Thai SmartLynx, expressed pride in being a trailblazer in providing flexible capacity solutions to the Thai aviation market. “Our ACMI model delivers a fully operational capacity solution for our partners, allowing airlines to scale their operations during peak demand or explore new routes without heavy investments or long-term commitments,” he stated.
Through effective ACMI partnerships, airlines can seamlessly increase their temporary capacity or optimize network efficiency while minimizing capital costs. With a strategic approach, the ACMI (wet lease) model can boost overall profitability by 2-3%.
The certification arrives just in time for the anticipated peak travel season as travelers from Europe and Asia eye the region for winter getaways and school holiday trips.
