Air Canada Takes Delivery of First Boeing 737 MAX 8 from Air Lease

Air Canada has recently received the first of five new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from Air Lease Corporation, a prominent US-based aircraft lessor.

This delivery, which took place on January 25, 2026, is part of a long-term lease agreement initiated in 2023, with the first aircraft expected as part of a strategic commitment to modernize Air Canada’s fleet.

Air Lease’s CEO, John L. Plueger, expressed excitement over this milestone. He stated, “Air Lease is pleased to deliver from our orderbook this first of five Boeing 737-8 aircraft on lease to our long-time customer, Air Canada.” He emphasized that this addition would enhance the airline’s diverse fleet of modern, fuel-efficient aircraft.

According to ch-aviation, Air Lease, headquartered in Los Angeles, has a total of 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8s on order, highlighting the growing demand for these efficient jets.

In addition to Air Lease, Air Canada has also partnered with BOC Aviation for further aircraft leases, specifically for the 737-8s, ensuring a robust and modern fleet.

Currently, the Canadian flag carrier boasts an active fleet of 194 commercial aircraft, with the Boeing 737 MAX being the most frequently utilized model.

Earlier in December 2025, Air Lease delivered the first of four Airbus A321XLRs to Qanot Sharq, an airline based in Uzbekistan. This notable delivery showcases Air Lease’s commitment to providing advanced aircraft options.

AJ Abedin, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Air Lease, remarked, “Air Lease is proud to be the first lessor to introduce the A321XLR to Asia with our valued partner Qanot Sharq, an airline we have supported since day one.” He also noted the strategic potential of Qanot Sharq, positioned to fully leverage the capabilities of this transformative aircraft.
