Emirates Flight Catering Launches Comprehensive Fleet Modernisation Initiative
DUBAI – Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) has made headlines with its ambitious fleet modernisation initiative, officially announced on May 29, 2025. This strategic move involves the procurement of 53 state-of-the-art aircraft catering trucks, made possible through a collaboration with industry leaders Mallaghan, Al-Futtaim Auto and Machinery Company, and Volvo. This significant investment of AED 60 million (USD $16 million) marks the beginning of a transformative five-year plan aimed at enhancing ground operations efficiency at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
Key Features of the Fleet Modernisation Plan
The fleet modernisation plan is a cornerstone of EKFC’s strategy to introduce a total of 120 next-generation vehicles within the designated timeframe. Here are some key highlights:
- Rapid Deployment: 92 new aircraft catering trucks will be integrated into operations within the next twelve months, with rollouts expected to commence later in 2025.
- Advanced Technology: The newly acquired Volvo FL 250 4X2 Euro 6 trucks are equipped with cutting-edge sensor technology and comprehensive monitoring systems, optimising loading and unloading processes.
- Environmental Benefits: These trucks leverage advanced Euro diesel engine technology, delivering substantial emissions reductions compared to older models.
Innovative Electric Aircraft Catering Solutions
As part of its fleet modernisation efforts, EKFC is also pioneering electric vehicle technology. This initiative includes the deployment of the region’s first electric aircraft catering truck, designed specifically for the operational requirements of Dubai International Airport. This electric truck will undergo a Proof-of-Concept phase, setting the stage for future fleet electrification and automation, with operations anticipated to begin in summer 2026.
Strategic Importance of the Fleet Modernisation

Ronan Mallaghan, CEO of Mallaghan, highlighted the collaboration as a landmark achievement in delivering advanced aviation ground support solutions. This partnership also aligns with a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in airport operations across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
Additionally, Al-Futtaim Industrial Equipment’s Managing Director, Ramez Hamdan, noted the dual impact of this agreement, which not only enhances fleet capability through 52 advanced Euro 6 trucks but also introduces pioneering electric vehicles to Dubai Airport.
Positioning for Future Growth
Christine Sandgren, Acting Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Middle East & Turkey, expressed pride in the partnership with EKFC, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable transport solutions. This collaboration aims to support future operational expansions at both Dubai International Airport and the upcoming Al Maktoum Airport facility.
