Alhind Air Set to Introduce Exciting New Routes by Late 2025

KOCHI- The Alhind Group from Kerala is set to launch its regional airline, Alhind Air, aiming for a late 2025 operational debut. This addition is poised to enhance India’s burgeoning aviation sector significantly.

Currently in the final stages of approval, the airline has already secured a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as well as an Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Flights are expected to commence from Kochi International Airport, its primary hub.

Alhind Air to Launch with ATR Fleet

Initially, Alhind Air will operate two to three ATR 72 turboprop aircraft. This choice is due to the aircraft’s efficiency and suitability for regional and short-haul flights within southern India.

The airline plans to invest between ₹200 crore and ₹500 crore, with ambitions to scale up to seven ATRs within its first year. Down the line, they aim to expand their fleet to over 20 aircraft, which may include Airbus A319 or A320 jets, facilitating medium-haul and international routes.

Backed by the Alhind Group, a significant player in the travel and tourism industry with an annual turnover around ₹20,000 crore and a presence of over 130 offices globally, Alhind Air leverages substantial expertise. The group already serves as a General Sales Agent (GSA) for numerous international airlines, offering a robust distribution network and established travel relationships. Shilpa Bhatia, previously with SpiceJet, has been appointed as the CEO. Kochi International Airport will serve as both the operational base and headquarters for the airline.

Alhind Air Initial Network

A recent tweet from Hubballi Airport confirmed that Alhind Air intends to launch a Kochi–Bengaluru–Hubballi–Bengaluru–Kochi route in its initial schedule. This expansion into Karnataka taps into another underserved market.

This move suggests Alhind Air’s strategy extends beyond Kerala routes. Connecting Hubballi via Bengaluru allows for better passenger filling capability compared to direct flights from Kochi.

The airline aims to link Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Bengaluru, and Chennai, addressing critical gaps in regional connectivity and providing more frequent service options.

Plans are also in place to commence international operations within two years post-launch to cater to the substantial expatriate community from Kerala. A successful domestic network could serve as a foundation for these international flights.

Entering the regional market, Alhind Air will compete against established players like IndiGo and Air India Express.

By targeting underserved Tier-2 and Tier-3 routes, the airline hopes to avoid direct competition in overcrowded sectors.

This approach could cultivate brand recognition while the ATR 72’s ability to operate from shorter runways—along with lower operating costs—provides a significant edge in regions with limited airport infrastructure.

Although Alhind Air’s mid-2025 launch target has shifted, regulatory progress remains promising. The airline may encounter challenges in managing operational costs to maintain viable load factors in smaller markets.

Nevertheless, solid financial backing, experienced leadership, and carefully chosen markets provide a robust foundation for success. India’s potential in regional connectivity is vast.

If executed well, Alhind Air could become a significant player in enhancing regional connectivity in southern India. Additionally, new competitors may lead to lower fares on routes traditionally dominated by larger airlines.
