Ryanair Celebrates 200 Million Passengers in 2024/25
Ryanair Achieves Historic Milestone: Over 200 Million Passengers Carried in a Year
In a groundbreaking achievement for European commercial aviation, Ryanair has become the first airline to carry over 200 million passengers in a single 12-month period. This significant milestone was celebrated on March 26, 2025, when Ryanair welcomed its 200 millionth passenger at Madrid-Barajas Airport, highlighting the airline’s dominance in the low-cost travel market.
Celebrating the 200 Millionth Passenger
Ryanair’s remarkable achievement comes as no surprise, given its extensive network and commitment to affordable travel. The milestone passenger, 84-year-old Maria Cornelia Vos, arrived on flight FR5469 from Fuerteventura and was warmly greeted by Ryanair staff. CEO Michael O’Leary expressed pride in the accomplishment, noting that Ryanair passengers saved approximately €5 billion ($5.5 billion) compared to fares from competitor airlines.
Ryanair’s Record-Setting Year
This achievement not only sets a new record for Ryanair but also marks a significant moment in European aviation history. Alongside Ryanair, only a few airlines globally, including Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, have reached similar passenger numbers. Ryanair anticipates carrying around 206 million passengers in the next fiscal year, although initial forecasts were higher due to production delays at Boeing.
Challenges Ahead for Ryanair
Despite its success, Ryanair faces challenges, including supply chain bottlenecks that have impacted the delivery of new aircraft. O’Leary stated that while Boeing’s production is recovering, the airline does not expect sufficient aircraft deliveries by summer 2025. The current fleet consists of 612 aircraft, primarily Boeing 737s, with an average age of ten years.
Pricing Outlook for 2025
Looking forward, Ryanair expects a 4% to 6% increase in ticket prices in 2025, following an 8% decline the previous year. O’Leary noted that pricing would remain approximately 2% lower than it was two years ago, indicating a cautious but optimistic outlook for the airline.
Navigating Operational Challenges
Recently, Ryanair capitalized on unexpected operational disruptions at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), which led to an additional 10,000 bookings across its other London routes. O’Leary reported a significant profit boost during this period, showcasing Ryanair’s agility in adapting to market conditions.
In summary, Ryanair’s achievement of carrying over 200 million passengers solidifies its position as Europe’s leading low-cost airline. As the airline navigates challenges and anticipates future growth, it remains committed to providing affordable travel options for millions of passengers.
