Lufthansa Celebrates 100 Years with Unique B787-9 Centenary Livery

Lufthansa, the notable German airline, has revealed a distinctive livery on a Boeing 787-9 model to celebrate its centenary.

This special design highlights the airline’s emblematic flying crane, depicted in white and gracefully stretching its wings across the dark blue fuselage. Additionally, the number “100” adorns one side of the aircraft, while the dates “1926-2026” are showcased on the opposite side.

While the current incarnation of Lufthansa officially began in 1953, this livery pays homage to its predecessor, Deutsche Luft Hansa, which was founded in 1926 during the Weimar Republic era.

The aircraft featuring this centennial design is designated D-ABPU, a newly ordered Boeing 787-9. Currently, it’s being outfitted at Boeing’s facility in Charleston, North Carolina, with delivery anticipated in November 2025 and planned entry into service in December.

Like other new Dreamliners that Lufthansa will be incorporating, this aircraft will arrive in Frankfurt complete with the airline’s new Allegris cabin. The first Allegris-fitted Boeing 787 was welcomed in August 2025.

Earlier this year, Delta Air Lines also celebrated its 100th anniversary with a unique livery, which applied to an Airbus A321neo.
