Similar to other pilot roles, they have a monthly flying hour guarantee of 50, with potential for increased earnings based on seniority and flying experience. Captains also receive the largest monthly allowance of HKD 28,000 (approximately US$3,600).

How to Become a Cathay Pacific Pilot
To become a second officer with Cathay Pacific, candidates must meet the following:
- ICAO Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) or Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR).
- A minimum of 250 flying hours (1,000 hours, plus multi-crew cooperation, is preferred).
- Eligibility for HKCPL on conversion based on specific regulations.
- A valid Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- ICAO English language proficiency Level 4 or higher.
First officers must fulfill these criteria:
- ICAO ATPL or CPL with Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR).

- A minimum flying time of 1,500 hours (3,000 hours preferred), including at least 500 hours as Pilot in Command (P1).
