Boeing Partners with Air Senegal for Nine 737 MAX Jets at Dubai Airshow
Air Senegal has finalized a significant deal with Boeing to acquire nine Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, marking the largest aerospace agreement ever recorded in Senegal’s history.
During a press conference at the Dubai Airshow on November 17, 2025, representatives from both companies announced they had signed a letter of intent (LOI) as the initial step of this agreement. The contract also includes an option to purchase six additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
This partnership is not solely about aircraft acquisition; it aims to enhance the aviation landscape in Senegal.
Air Senegal has plans to broaden its network throughout Europe and introduce new routes connecting Dakar to the Americas and the Middle East. The introduction of the 737 MAX will allow the airline to service smaller European cities, providing passengers with a more efficient travel experience by bypassing busy airport hubs.
Tidiane Ndiaye, CEO of Air Senegal, expressed, “This strategic choice aligns perfectly with our goal to modernize our fleet, bolster our operational efficiency, and support the growth of our regional and international network.” He added, “This acquisition demonstrates Air Sénégal’s dedication to providing our passengers with a more reliable, comfortable, and sustainable travel experience while reinforcing Dakar’s role as a premier aviation hub in West Africa.”
The signing ceremony was attended by Senegal’s Minister of Land and Air Transport, Yankoba Diémé, along with Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing.
McMullen remarked, “We eagerly anticipate welcoming Air Senegal to the 737 MAX family as they utilize the versatility, reliability, and advanced technology of the 737-8 to fuel their growth aspirations. We are dedicated to supporting the sustainable development of air travel in the region and will work closely with Air Senegal to enrich their fleet and elevate the passenger experience.”
Air Senegal’s agreement with Boeing follows a recent order from Ethiopian Airlines, indicating a growing trend among African carriers toward expanding their fleets with Boeing jets.
Curious about how this acquisition will shape the future of Air Senegal and the wider African aviation market?
