Korean Air Joins Four Hanjin Group Airlines to Introduce Starlink Wi-Fi

Hanjin Group’s airlines, including Korean Air, Asiana, Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul, are set to introduce Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi on selected aircraft by 2027. This initiative represents a significant step for South Korean carriers in enhancing passenger connectivity.

The installation and testing of Starlink will commence in the latter part of 2025, as stated by Hanjin KAL, the parent company of the Hanjin Group. Full details were shared on December 5, 2025, outlining their plans for this innovative technology.

Starlink will be initially implemented on a select number of aircraft, followed by a gradual rollout across each airline’s entire fleet. Specific timelines will vary, with the earliest service anticipated to commence in the third quarter of 2026.

“Connectivity is an essential part of the travel experience, and with Starlink, our customers will stay connected with fast and seamless internet,” commented a representative from Korean Air.

For both Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, the initial installations will focus on their long-haul Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Korean Air aims to achieve complete fleet installation by the end of 2027.

Jin Air plans to begin with its Boeing 737-8 aircraft, while Air Busan and Air Seoul will evaluate their fleets to establish installation priorities.

Starlink’s in-flight internet leverages a network of over 8,000 low Earth orbit satellites positioned around 550 kilometers above the Earth. This setup surpasses traditional in-flight internet, which relies on ground stations or geostationary satellites situated over 35,000 kilometers away.

As a result, SpaceX’s Starlink service is capable of providing broadband speeds of up to 500 Mbps. Passengers will be able to enjoy streaming, online gaming, video calls, cloud-based work, shopping, and messaging while flying.

In November 2025, IAG announced a collaboration with Starlink to equip more than 500 aircraft with high-speed satellite Wi-Fi starting in early 2026. This will enhance connectivity for both short- and long-haul fleets operated by Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling.
