MAB Academy Launches Unique Simulator Facility with First Training Pool in the Nation

MAB Academy, part of Malaysia Aviation Group, inaugurated its state-of-the-art simulator facility in Sepang on January 6, 2026. This event signifies a move from a 40-year-old training center in Subang, establishing the academy as a key player in aviation professional development across the region.

The new facility, located in the South Support Zone, features six full-flight simulator bays. These include models for the Airbus A330neo, Boeing 737-800NG, and ATR 72-500. Malaysia Airlines emphasizes that this space has been thoughtfully designed to create conducive learning environments with specialized training areas that foster direct interaction between instructors and trainees, and promote structured skill enhancement.

The launch ceremony included Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook, Khazanah Nasional Berhad Managing Director Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, MAG Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, and MAG President and Group CEO-designate Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar.

National Firsts in Aviation Training

This new facility introduces two groundbreaking features that have been lacking in Malaysia’s aviation training landscape. MAB Academy is now home to the country’s first water survival training pool, complete with wave simulation. This allows cabin crew and pilots to train for emergency water evacuations in realistic scenarios.

Additionally, the center has achieved the distinction of being Malaysia’s first aviation training facility to earn Green Building Index certification. This recognition highlights its commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible construction practices.

Aside from the simulators, the building is equipped with safety and emergency training tools, including a Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer for practical aircraft evacuation procedure training.

Strategic Expansion

The establishment of this facility marks the final stage of MAB Academy’s move from its earlier Subang location. This strategic transition is part of the Malaysia Aviation Group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0, which centers around disciplined growth and operational readiness.

“The launch of MAB Academy’s new Simulator Building represents a pivotal step in our long-term transformation journey,” stated Datuk Captain Izham Ismail. “We are dedicated to equipping aviation professionals with the skills needed for real-world challenges, and this facility reinforces that dedication by ensuring our training remains rigorous, relevant, and practical.”

Future plans include expanding simulator offerings with a Boeing 737-8 full-flight simulator expected to be operational by July 2026. This will cater to training needs for next-generation narrow-body aircraft across the region.

Current Operations and Regional Role

MAB Academy currently operates as an Approved Training Organisation endorsed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, offering around 200 specialized training programs for airlines, corporations, aviation experts, and international learners.

The new infrastructure is set to address the increasing demand for qualified aviation professionals in Southeast Asia as the region’s air travel market expands. With its certification and capacity, the academy will serve not only Malaysia Airlines but also external airlines and aviation organizations seeking accredited training.

With the simulator building actively functioning, MAB Academy has positioned itself as one of the most comprehensive aviation training facilities in the region, integrating flight simulation with safety training and emergency procedure instruction all under one roof.
