United Airlines Announces New Destinations, Strengthening US Flag Carrier Status

United Airlines is positioning itself as the premier U.S. flag carrier by unveiling a substantial expansion of its European routes set to launch in Summer 2026.

On October 9, 2025, the airline announced its commitment to offering more transatlantic destinations than any other U.S. carrier. This expansion includes four new, exciting routes to Croatia, Italy, Scotland, and Spain.

Beginning in Summer 2026, United will initiate nonstop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

“Our international network is unmatched, and we take pride in connecting travelers to unique, trendsetting destinations that no other U.S. airline serves,” stated Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances.

He further emphasized, “With these new routes added, alongside the return of our previous year’s services, United will operate flights to 46 cities across the Atlantic—more than any other airline—solidifying our status as the U.S. flag carrier.”
