Cathay Pacific Launches 2025 ‘I Can Fly’ Youth Program to Inspire Future Aviation Leaders
Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific has officially launched the 2025 edition of its flagship community service initiative, the ‘I Can Fly’ youth program. This dynamic initiative is designed to inspire young people to follow their dreams in aviation while simultaneously making a positive impact in society. At the launch event on March 22, 2025, Cathay Pacific showcased its long-standing commitment to youth development in Hong Kong, welcoming hundreds of young participants eager to explore opportunities in the aviation industry.
The refreshed ‘I Can Fly’ youth program emphasizes empowerment through a variety of engaging activities, focusing on the themes of Education, Discovery, and Exploration. The initiative aims to support approximately 2,000 young individuals aged 10 to 18, encouraging them to pursue careers in aviation and beyond.
Empowering Youth through Aviation
Cathay Pacific’s ‘I Can Fly’ program collaborates with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Strive and Rise program and various community partners. Notably, around 870 students from underprivileged backgrounds participated in two Aviation Explorer Days, where they gained hands-on experience in aviation, supported by 70 dedicated staff volunteers from the airline.
During the event, Liu Chun-san, the Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics in Hong Kong, praised the program. "Cathay’s ‘I Can Fly’ initiative not only broadens participants’ horizons but also ignites their courage to pursue their aviation dreams," Liu stated. He noted that many locally trained pilots are alumni of this program, emphasizing its role as a "dream factory for aviation."
A Comprehensive Aviation Experience
Cathay Pacific’s ‘I Can Fly’ program will host Aviation Explorer Days throughout 2025, featuring tours of Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and insights into the aviation industry. Participants will receive mentorship and learn about various career paths within aviation.
The program also includes the I Can Fly Youth Academy, offering a five-month aviation training course, and the Discovery pillar, which culminates in an air experience flight at the end of 2025. These initiatives are designed to provide unique opportunities for Hong Kong’s youth, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the aviation sector.
Commitment to Community
Patricia Hwang, Cathay Pacific’s Director of People, expressed her excitement about welcoming students to the ‘I Can Fly’ program. "We hope their experiences will ignite their passion for aviation and inspire them to create positive change in society," Hwang stated. The airline’s commitment to youth development, sports, and arts aims to foster a brighter future for all in Hong Kong.
Since its inception in 2003, the ‘I Can Fly’ program has empowered over 4,400 students, many of whom are now pursuing successful careers in aviation. This initiative demonstrates Cathay Pacific’s dedication to nurturing future talent and strengthening Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation hub.
