HANOI – In a bold move to enhance its international network, Vietjet Air (VJ) has placed an order for 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft. This significant deal, inked during French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent visit to Vietnam, highlights the airline’s ambition to expand its long-haul services. With the addition of these advanced jets, Vietjet aims to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific and European markets.
The new A330neo fleet is a crucial part of Vietjet’s long-term strategy, now bringing its total firm orders for the widebody jets to 40. This expansion complements its existing all-Airbus fleet, positioning Vietjet as a competitive player in the global aviation landscape.
Vietjet’s Strategic Move: 20 Airbus A330neo Orders
The order for the A330-900 aircraft is more than just a fleet enhancement; it is part of Vietjet’s broader vision to reinforce its global network over the next decade. The new aircraft will enable the airline to increase flight frequencies on popular international routes and introduce new long-haul services, catering to the growing demand for air travel.
- Range and Efficiency: The Airbus A330-900 boasts a remarkable range of 13,300 km, making it ideal for direct flights connecting Southeast Asia with Europe, Australia, and other destinations.
- Sustainability Focus: Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao emphasized the importance of integrating fuel-efficient, environmentally responsible aircraft into Vietjet’s operations, aligning with its commitment to sustainable growth.
Fleet Expansion and Future Prospects
With the recent order, Vietjet has doubled its A330neo commitments to 40 aircraft. Alongside this, the airline holds 96 orders for the A320neo Family. Currently, Vietjet operates a total fleet of 115 Airbus aircraft, including seven A330-300 widebodies that serve long-haul destinations such as Australia, India, and Kazakhstan.

Advanced Aircraft Capabilities
The Airbus A330-900, equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, stands out as an efficient and long-range solution for airlines. Key features include:
- Long Range: Capable of flying up to 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 km) nonstop.
- Passenger Comfort: The aircraft features the innovative Airspace cabin design, offering spacious interiors, advanced lighting, larger overhead bins, and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment.
- Sustainability: The A330neo supports up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) usage today, with plans for full SAF capability by 2030, aligning with global carbon reduction initiatives.
As of April 2025, over 1,800 A330 Family aircraft have been ordered by more than 130 customers worldwide, showcasing robust market confidence in this aircraft model.
