World’s Highest Fighter Airbase Inaugurated at 13,700 Feet

LADAKH– The Indian Air Force has officially commissioned Nyoma Airbase in eastern Ladakh, marking it as the highest operational fighter base globally, with an elevation of 13,700 feet.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh inaugurated the Mudh-Nyoma facility by landing a C-130J Super Hercules from the Indian Air Force, alongside Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command.

Constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the airbase features a 2.7-kilometre-long runway, showcasing advanced engineering techniques specifically designed for high-altitude settings, capable of withstanding temperatures as low as –40°C.
